From the Philosophical Problems of Information to the

Philosophy of Information

Abstract: The philosophical problems of information have long been under consideration, but they have failed to draw serious attention from the philosophers. Recently, the western community of philosophy put forward a research programme of the philosophy of information (PI), in which information is formerly claimed as a research category among the fundamental concepts and the concept of information is regarded to have the same important basic position as those of being, knowledge and meaning. Philosophy is facing the information turn. This essay is going to give an introduction to how this new and interdisciplinary branch of philosophy comes into being.
